Mission Briefing

  • 11. The Basics: How You Get Money
  • 22. The Loss Bonus (The Ladder)
  • 33. The Meta Buys (Turn by Turn)
  • 44. Saving Weapons (JAME Time)

MR12 Warning: In CS:GO (MR15), you played to 16. In CS2, you play to 13. This means you have fewer rounds to recover from a mistake. Every dollar counts.

#1. The Basics: How You Get Money

You don't get paid for participation (well, you do, but it's not enough).

  • Kill Reward:
    • Pistol: $300 (Except CZ75: $100)
    • SMG: $600 (Except P90: $300)
    • Shotgun: $900
    • AWP: $100
    • Knife: $1500
  • Objective:
    • Win Round: $3250 (Elimination) or $3500 (Bomb Exploded)
    • Plant Bomb (Loss): +$800 for T side.

#2. The Loss Bonus (The Ladder)

If you lose, the game gives you pity money. This "Loss Bonus" increases with consecutive losses.

Loses in a RowBonus MoneyState
0 (Won prev)$1400The hard reset.
1$1900"Force Buy" territory.
2$2400Semi-Eco.
3$2900The "Comfort Zone".
4+ (Max)$3400Max Bonus.

[!TIP] The $1400 Reset: If you are on a 4-loss streak ($3400 income) and manage to WIN one round, but instantly LOSE the next, your bonus resets to $1900 (not $1400). This is the "Loss Bonus Consolation" (it steps down by 1, doesn't fully reset).

#3. The Meta Buys (Turn by Turn)

Round 1: Pistol Round

Do Not Save. Spending $800 to win this round gives you control of the next 2 rounds.

  • T-Side: Armor (if you aim well) or Tec-9/Smoke (if you rush).
  • CT-Side: Defuse Kit is mandatory (1 per site).

Round 2: The "Force" Dilemma

Did you lose Round 1?

  • With Bomb Plant: You have ~$2200. SAVE. You will have a god-tier buy Round 3 ($2200 + $2400 = $4600).
  • No Plant: You have $1900. FORCE. Buy Deagles/Scouts/MP9s. If you save, you still won't have decent guns Round 3. You might as well try to steal the round now.

Round 3+: The "Full Buy"

You need at least $4200 - $4700 for a proper buy (Rifle + Armor + Utility). If you have $3800, you are a liability. Drop your teammate a pistol or ask for a drop.

#4. Saving Weapons (JAME Time)

In MR12, staying alive with a weapon is often better than trying a 1v4 clutch.

  • CT Side: Saving an M4A1-S ($2900) and Armor ($1000) is equivalent to winning a round economically.
  • T Side: Saving an AK is good, but getting $0 round income (for surviving after time runs out) is a disaster. Only save as T if you can bring the gun into the next round effectively.

#Summary

  1. Prioritize the Pistol Round.
  2. Count the enemy money. (Did they just lose 4 in a row? They are rich. Did they just win close? They might be broke).
  3. Buy as a Team. If 4 people buy and 1 saves, you lose.

Economy Management Strategy

#5. Advanced Economy Tracking

Professional teams have a dedicated coach who tracks enemy money in real-time. You need to do this yourself in solo queue.

The Mental Math Formula

After each round, ask yourself:

  1. Did they win or lose?
  2. How many survived? (Each survivor keeps their $4,000 loadout)
  3. Did they plant the bomb? (+$800 for T side)
  4. How many are on their loss streak?

Example Scenario (T Side)

Round 1: T wins pistol (5 alive) = $3,500 + $800 (starting money) = ~$4,300 each Round 2: T loses to CT force buy (2 alive) = $1,900 base + $800 saved weapons = ~$2,700 Round 3: T loses again (0 alive) = $2,400 loss bonus Round 4: T has $5,100 for a full buy (rifle + armor + nades)

4Win (3 survive)0$3,250$9,600+FULL BUY (AWP)

#6. The AWP Economy Tax

The AWP costs $4,750. This creates a unique dynamic:

When to Buy AWP

Good:

  • You have $6,000+ (AWP + armor + 1 flash)
  • Your team has money to support you (smokes to cover your positioning)
  • The map favors AWP angles (Dust2 Long, Mirage Mid)

Bad:

  • You have exactly $4,750 and no armor
  • Your team is broke and can't trade you out if you die
  • The enemy has 5 rifles and will rush you instantly

Scenario: You buy an AWP Round 3. You die Round 3. The enemy picks it up. Now the enemy AWPer has a free $4,750 weapon AND you're down to $1,400 income for Round 4.

Solution: If you're going to AWP, make sure you have a teammate ready to cover your corpse. Don't let the enemy have a free gun.

AWP Drop Priority

If you're rich ($10,000+) and your teammate is broke, always drop the AWP to the better player.

Math:

  • Your teammate buys nothing and gets dropped an AWP: Team wealth = $10,000
  • Your teammate buys a rifle and you buy an AWP: Team wealth = $7,000 (inefficient)

#7. Map-Specific Economy Strategies

Different maps favor different playstyles. Adjust your economy accordingly.

Dust2: The Terrorist Favor

T side has better default positioning. If you're rich, buy AKs and play slow. The CTs will get impatient and peek you.

T Side Strategy:

  • Rounds 1-3: Win pistol, force Round 2, full buy Round 3
  • Rounds 4-6: If you lost pistol, save Round 2, full buy Round 3
  • Rounds 7+: Maintain AK advantage. Don't throw rounds by over-peeking.

CT Side Strategy:

  • Invest in utility (smokes, flashes, molotovs). You need to slow down T executes.
  • Always have at least 1 AWP covering Long A or Mid.

Inferno: The CT Fortress

CT side is heavily favored. If you're losing badly on T side, save money for your CT half.

T Side Strategy:

  • Force buy every other round. You're going to lose most rounds anyway.
  • When you do buy, commit 100%. No half-buys.

CT Side Strategy:

  • Play safe. Trade kills. Don't give away free guns.
  • Hold your money lead. Even a 7-6 scoreline with $15,000 team bank is a winning position.

#8. The "Eco Frag" Myth

Many players believe eco rounds are "throwaway" rounds. This is wrong.

Why Eco Rounds Matter

Scenario: It's 5v5. CTs have full buys ($5,000 each). Ts have pistols ($800 each).

If the Ts can kill just 2 CTs before dying, they've done economic damage:

  • 2 CT deaths = $10,000 in lost weapons/armor
  • Ts lost $0 (they were broke anyway)
  • Net Swing: $10,000 in T favor

Eco Round Strategies

T Side Eco

  • Rush B: 5-man train with Glocks. Overwhelm 1-2 defenders, plant bomb (+$800 each), steal guns.
  • Split A: 3 go Long, 2 go Short. Pinch the CTs and force crossfires.
  • Mid Control: Fight for Mid with Tec-9s. If you win, you have map control for the next round.

CT Side Eco

  • Stack 1 Site: Put 4 players on A, 1 on B. If they hit B, sacrifice it. If they hit A, you have numbers advantage.
  • Close Angles: Don't hold long angles with pistols. Hide in corners and burst-fire at close range.
  • Defuse Kit: Always buy at least 1 kit. A 5-second defuse instead of 10 can win you the round.

#9. The "Anti-Eco" Trap

You've just won an eco round. The enemy is broke. You're rich. This is the most dangerous round.

Why Anti-Ecos Are Dangerous

The enemy has nothing to lose. They will play hyper-aggressive. If you die with your $5,000 loadout, they've essentially won 2 rounds for the price of 1.

Common Mistakes:

  • Playing alone on eco rounds
  • Repeaking corners after getting a kill
  • Not checking all angles (the enemy will hide in weird spots)

Solution:

  • Play together. Trade kills instantly.
  • Use utility. Molotov common hiding spots (Inferno Banana, Mirage Connector).
  • Don't greed. If you get 1 kill, fall back and reposition.

Problem: Your teammates rush in 1 by 1 and die to eco players with P250s.

Solution: Type in chat: "Group up. Play slow. Use nades." If they ignore you, stay alive with the bomb and save your gun. Don't follow them into the meat grinder.

#10. The Half-Buy Debate

A "half-buy" is when you have $3,000-$4,000. Not enough for a full buy, but too much to eco.

When to Half-Buy

Good Situations:

  • The enemy is also broke (mirror eco)
  • You're down 3-9 and need to steal a round to avoid a mental collapse
  • It's Round 11/12 (late game), and you might not get another chance to buy

Bad Situations:

  • The enemy has a full buy and you're just donating guns
  • Your team is split (3 buy, 2 save)
  • You have time to eco once and full-buy next round

Half-Buy Loadout

If you're going to half-buy, maximize value:

RoleWeaponArmorUtilityTotal Cost
EntryTec-9/Mac10Helmet1 Flash$2,000
SupportMP9/UMPHelmet2 Smokes$2,500
AWPer (Save)DeagleHelmetNone$1,700

Never: Buy an M4A1-S with no armor. You'll die instantly.

Team Strategy Discussion

#11. Solo Queue vs Team Economy

In a 5-stack, you can coordinate perfectly. In solo queue, you're at the mercy of random teammates.

Solo Queue Economy Survival Guide

Rule 1: Always Match Your Team

If 4 players force-buy and you save, you've made the round a 4v5. Just buy with them (even if it's a bad decision).

Rule 2: Don't Drop to Strangers (Unless Necessary)

If a teammate asks for a drop and they have $1,500+, ignore them. They should save and buy next round.

Exception: If they're a proven fragger (30+ kills), drop them every time.

Rule 3: Mute the Toxic Economy Police

Some players spam chat with "ECO ECO ECO" every round. If they're wrong, mute them. If they're right, listen.

Trust your instincts. If the team vibe says "force," then force.

#12. The MR12 Endgame

In MR15 (CS:GO), you could recover from a 10-5 deficit. In MR12 (CS2), a 9-3 lead is almost unbeatable.

The Math

  • You need 13 rounds to win.
  • If you're up 9-3 at halftime, you only need 4 more rounds.
  • The enemy needs 10 rounds (out of 12) to win. That's an 83% win rate.

Translation: Every round in the first half is worth 2x compared to CS:GO.

Adaptation Strategy

If you're losing 2-10, don't tilt. Focus on:

  • Winning pistol Round 13 (the "second half pistol")
  • Stealing 1-2 anti-ecos
  • Forcing the enemy to spend money

Goal: Make it 6-12. Then full-buy with everything you have. If you win 2 in a row, suddenly it's 8-12 and the enemy is panicking.

#13. Utility Economy (The Hidden Cost)

Nades cost money. A full nade set (2 flashes, 1 smoke, 1 molotov, 1 HE) costs $1,000.

When to Buy Full Nades

Always:

  • You have $6,000+
  • You're CT side defending a site
  • You're T side executing onto a site

Never:

  • You have exactly $4,700 and need a rifle
  • You're saving (obviously)
  • You're entry fragging and will die in the first 10 seconds

Smoke Priority

Molotov Value

#14. The "JAME Time" Meme (Saving Properly)

"JAME Time" refers to pro player Dzhami "Jame" Ali, famous for saving weapons even when his team is losing.

Is This Actually Good?

Yes, but only if you're smart about it.

Good Save:

  • It's 1v4, bomb isn't planted, you have an AWP
  • You hide, survive, and bring the AWP into next round
  • Economic Value: $4,750 saved

Bad Save:

  • It's 2v4, bomb is planted, you have a chance to clutch
  • You hide instead, enemy defuses
  • Economic Value: $0 (you kept your gun but lost the $800 plant bonus for your team)

#15. Real-World Economy Analogies

Think of CS2 economy like real investing:

CS2 ConceptReal-World Equivalent
Full BuyBlue-chip stock investment
Eco RoundBear market (accumulate assets)
Force BuyHigh-risk swing trade
Saving AWPAsset protection strategy
Donating GunCapital injection for a partner

The Lesson: Professional teams treat CS2 economy like a hedge fund. Amateurs treat it like a casino.

#Frequently Asked Questions

Buying alone when the team is saving. This creates a 4v5 AND donates a gun to the enemy. Always sync your buys with your team.

T side: Usually yes. CT side: Depends. If you're playing a passive site hold (Inferno B, Train B), you can skip armor and buy a defuse kit + utility instead.

Count their losses. If they lost Round 1 and you killed the bomb carrier Round 2 (no plant), they have ~$1,900. That's force-buy territory. Expect Deagles, Scouts, and MP9s.

Rarely. As T, you get $800 for planting the bomb, which is huge. Even if you're going to lose, always try to plant. The only time to save is if it's 1v5 with 10 seconds left and you have an AWP.

T side: Tec-9 (run-and-gun, good armor penetration). CT side: MP9 or Deagle (depending on your aim). Avoid the CZ75-Auto; the $100 kill reward isn't worth it.

#Conclusion: Master the Money, Master the Game

CS2 is 50% aim, 50% economy management. You can out-aim your opponent all day, but if you're broke and they have rifles, you lose.

The Three Economy Commandments:

  1. Track the enemy money (mental math every round)
  2. Buy as a team (never go rogue)
  3. Save intelligently (don't JAME Time when you have a chance to win)
